Course Title
Methods and Materials of STEM Education
Course Description
In EDCR 342 aspiring educators delve into cutting-edge instruction aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards and the Pennsylvania Science, Technology, Engineering and Environmental Literacy Standards (STEELS). This course integrates inquiry-based learning and human development theory to equip teacher candidates with the skills and knowledge to engage and inspire Pre-K through Grade 12 students in the STEM disciplines. Through a combination of lectures, discussions, hands-on activities, and field experiences, teacher candidates will learn how to foster scientific curiosity, critical thinking, and a lifelong love for STEM learning, preparing them to excel in today's dynamic educational landscape. The pre-student teaching field experience associated with this course is 30-60 hours for middle level and secondary education. The exact hours will depend upon the content area in which the candidate is enrolled. Early childhood and special education candidates will complete a service-learning project in lieu of a field experience.
