Accounting is a promising and rewarding career. The Accounting major offers a rigorous curriculum designed to develop a sound understanding of accounting theory and practice, as well as the ethical principles necessary to prepare students for professional careers in public accounting, corporate accounting, or government/non-profit accounting. The Accounting program prides itself in bringing practical knowledge into the classroom based on personal professional experiences of the accounting faculty.

The Accounting program provides an excellent base for graduate work in Accounting, Law, or related fields. The Dahlkemper School of Business offers business students the opportunity to participate in the 4+1 accelerated BS/MBA program that meets the needs of the public accounting profession on a national basis in support of the 150-hour education requirement initiated by the American Institute of CPA’s and many state boards of accountancy. Students choosing to pursue a career in corporate accounting have the necessary coursework to meet the requirements for the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) exam.

The following courses, 21 credits, must be completed to satisfy the requirements for the Bachelor of Science in Accounting:

Accounting students will apply accounting knowledge utilizing relevant technologies and applications for the correct use and analysis of accouting data. Areas of knowledge include financial accounting, taxation, auditing, and cost management.

Accounting students will identify ethical issues relevant to business and the practice of accounting and evaluate the impact on alternative business decisions.

Accounting students will identify, prepare, analyze, and evaluate appropriate financial reports.

Dahlkemper School of Business Students apply leadership and team building skills to develop strategies, manage resources and achieve goals.

Dahlkemper School of Business Students evaluate and integrate core knowledge across the breadth of functional business areas to solve problems and capture opportunities.
